Encarta

Hi everyone. Do you know if I can transfer Encarta 2005 from my 5-year-old XP laptop to my new Windows 7 32-bit laptop?

Yes, I know it's not compatible, but it does work, I think.

I tried last night with PickMeApp, but it says "encarta.exe Ordinal Not Found" or "edict.exe Ordinal Not Found" when I clicked on the programs after I 'installed' them using PickMeApp.

Unlike with Encarta 2009, which had installation problems I had to workaround, Encarta 2005 installs fine. It's just my installer is missing its 5th cd, which made me get Encarta 2009 in the first place (and now led me to try to capture the program with PickMeApp). Encarta 2009's encyclopedia opens and works fine, but the dictionary is so buggy. It gets stuck on a word, or displays blank panels or says that the word I'm looking for is not in the English dictionary. I'm a writer and I only connect my machine to the broadband when I have to check emails and update my programs, so I need the dictionary, with its translation and etymologies at my fingertips.

Help, please? Thank you!

Thank you for interesting in PickMeApp.

If PickMeApp is able to catpure a program, to re-install it on a new PC, but program still does not work then there are two options:

  1. Program License was not transferred.
  2. Some program elements were not transferred ( files and/or registry)

In the first case, please take a look to the following posts
In the second case, there is a very good chance to find a workaround to fix the problem.

Can you please check if PickMeApp able to transfer Encarta 2005 from XP to XP .
If it works there is a good chance that we can find a workaround to make it work on Windows 7 too.

I'm on the family pc right now. This was bought after we lost some of our old installers, so we didn't get to install Encarta here either. But since this pc's connected to the internet, there wasn't much demand for offline reference.

It's on XP and I've just finished installing PickMeApp's 'captured' Encarta 2005 that didn't work on my Windows 7 laptop. It works XP to XP! Fantastic!

I hope you guys can make it work on my laptop, too. Or is it a registry issue? Please let me know what I should do. Thanks a lot. I'm very optimistic. My goodness, PickMeApp is wonderful! You guys should ADD ENCARTA TO THE LIST OF SUPPORTED PROGRAMS. ;)
