Unable to capture programs

Hi all- I am working on a clients computer (XP), service pack 2) trying to get around an error code 0x8007007e (an update/validation issue that has so far crippled this computer) and I want to get the business programs off. I'm trying to use this in safe mode (I've tried safe mode, and safe mode with command prompt, can't access networking because of the same issue as above). I can get the program to run, but when I select to capture the programs it says that it started and then finished with errors with nothing in my folder. I am running it in admin mode, and have also used the failsafe MSI script, still nothing. Any ideas?
